Event Details

The author of the controversial graffiti from Maribor is coming to Ljubljana. The architect and artist Sašo Rek, in collaboration with Gregor Lakner, painted on the facade of the cultural center Pekarna in Maribor a portrait of the current prime minister with a raised right hand and with an adapted exclamation “Death to the people, freedom to fascism”. Two days after the creation of the graffiti, the 25th of april, police came to visit Pekarna where they conducted a blitzkrieg repainting with the help of the fireman. Tjaša Pureber, a researcher of social movements and producer in culture will discuss with Sašo the circumstances of the creation of this graffiti, freedom of speech, the role of art in the public space, the fight for the communal, repression over artistic autonomy and mainly the role of the artist in the fight for social changes.

? Sašo Rek says that he’s an active citizen and maker of his own fortune. He’s employed, without credit or any kind of debt. He’s a pessimist by nature who learnt that if a glass is half empty it’s also lighter. Sašo is mainly an active participant in Pekarna and its longtime advocate.

? Tjaša Pureber is a political scientist. As a researcher she deals with the study of contemporary social movements. She was active for a long time in journalism, being an advocate for non-governmental organizations and self employed in the cultural sector, being also a head of relations of the City of Women, currently working as head of relations for the Theatre Glej. She’s a publicist, researcher and activist.

✅ Free of charge, donations in support of the festival are welcome.
