Street arting: Carlo Galli: Titus Lartius

Galli preferably posits his creations into urban spaces in direct contact with the social fabric. Because of this he chose the location of AKC Metelkova mesto. In his work Galli will integrate the observations and experience of the Ljubljana lockdown and events happening on the social media into a local social and political context. He analyzed a flood of emotions and information collected during the pandemic and conceived them into a form of art messages. We will observe the result of the artist’s contemplation through three different spatial challenges – in Gallery Alkatraz, in half street gallery Nočna izložba Pešak and open space of AKC Metelkova.

For the urban intervention part of the wholesome art piece Metelkova (http://kudmreza.org/gesamtkunstwerk-metelkova/) he will create a urban tapestry (4x5m) of a portrait of Titus Lartius (501 BC), an ancient roman consul with a dishonorable title of the first dictator in history. His portrait is a critical response to recent dictatorial decisions of the government that took advantage of the pandemic for limiting the freedom of individuals. Interesting fact, already 500 years BC was the dictatorship limited only to six months nevertheless the dictator had the supreme authority in executing his tasks leaving no right to the people to contend his decisions. The work asks the question: “How long the contemporary regimes could last”, with the choice of artistic materials – an orange net he also asks in an original way: “For how long people will be limited to move freely?”

? Carlo Galli is an Italian artist, he lives and works in Milan. In his work, he represents 3Dimentional space through a bridge between intervention and meditation. He acquired a BA and a MA Fine Arts in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. So far, Galli traveled to several countries, including South Africa, Spain, United States, Austria, Ireland in which has been a participant in Artist Residencies.
